The Best 3 Detroit-style Pizza Places in Detroit, MI

It’s PIZZA!!! I have never met who hates pizza in the world. I truly think pizza is one of the best inventions in the history of our foods! Don’t you agree? I live in New York, and yes NY-style pizza is pretty good yet my favorite. It is Detroit-style pizza which I like the most. I recently traveled to Detroit, Michigan for these Detroit-style pizzas. The square spongy pie with fresh cheese and the crispy edge… YUM! If you are in Detroit or planning to visit Detroit, save those lists on your map. Also, check out my post about NY’s best pizza places, too!

1. Buddy’s Pizza

★★★★★

I miss Buddy’s Pizza so much. I wish I would live next to it. Dang, it is that good! Founded in 1946, Buddy’s Pizza is one of the most known and historic Detroit-style square pizzas. I planned to visit Buddy’s one time, and I ended up going twice in my 3 days short trip.

There is a total of 4 stores in Detroit, and I went to the Downtown one. It was super crowded when I got there although it was early dinner time. Most of them were from a baseball game at Ford Field next to Buddy’s. My bf and I had two pizzas, DPTV and Scillain, and one medium house salad. It’s very cheesy, soft, and crispy at the same time. The reason I love Detroit-style pizza more than Scillian-style pizza is that Detroit-style pizza is less bready and softer. Comments on how you think about this, pizza lovers! I’d like to hear your opinions!

On our last day, we already missed Buddy’s Pizza. So we go for a second visit. This time, we ordered Pepperoni. The reason was simple. It was so good and I wanted to try the most basic pizza from there. And we were right! Even though we had dinner somewhere else and we were full, it was still very delicious.

2. Michigan & Trumbull

★★★★☆

Michigan & Trumbull introduce more modernized Detroit-style pizza to you, meaning its pizza is more fun. It is located in Corktown which is a hipster neighborhood. I sat on the first floor as I didn’t know there is a rooftop. Later, I saw many parties come in a group and go to the rooftop. Well, it would have been better to have pizza with beer on the rooftop, but too late. We had Packard Pepperoni and buffalo wing with beers. I’m not a huge fan of honey on pizza, but the honey was for soothing spiciness and it was still quite spicy with honey.

3. Loui’s Pizza

I couldn’t go to Loui’s Pizza because our schedule didn’t fit with its operation time. It closes Monday and Tuesday, and it’s a 16mins drive from Downtown. Google’s rating is very high with a good amount of reviews. I’d appreciate you if you share your experience there! This is my next must-visit place in Detroit 😉 Loui’s Pizza has an active Facebook page for business updates.
